Locomotion – celebrates Shildon’s history as one of the first and greatest railway towns. Visitors can learn about the town's railway heritage and other rail stories through a range of interactive displays.
The Museum has more than 60 historic vehicles from the National Collection on display, including the original Locomotion No.1. and Sans PareiI, and British Rail’s Advanced Passenger Train.
Plus there's a varied programme of free special events and exhibitions throughout the year.
On selected dates, you can enjoy a ride on one of their passenger steam trains or diesel shunter - for a small fee.
All the museum’s buildings are wheelchair friendly. There’s also a play area, indoor and outdoor picnic tables, café and gift shop.
